THIS TIME fourty six years ago, Accrington Stanley were set to withdraw from the Football League, due to financial problems.

March 6th, 1962. A date that will no doubtingly be remembered by Accrington supporters alike, as the day football died in the this historic town.

With thirteen games remaining in the current season, the club could go on no longer. After being refused financial help from local club Burnley, who were also struggling to stay afloat at the time, Accrington turned to Blackburn Rovers.

But Blackburn’s money wasn’t enough to keep the club afloat and it was back down to Sunday League football for Accrington Stanley.

Thankfully the club rose again though, and here we are today, back in the football league, for the first time since the club went out of buisness all of them years ago.
