Accrington Stanley will travel to Newport on the opening weekend of the season as part of the Football League’s 125th Anniversary celebrations.

To mark the Anniversary the Football League have selected six matches – two in each league – to feature founder members and historical pairings.

In League Two we travel to Rodney Parade to welcome Newport into the league following their promotion and the game selected sees Hartlepool visit Rochdale for their 137 encounter – the most played fixture between current Football League members.

Speaking to the Official Site Rob Heys said.

‘It’s great for Accrington to be involved in these celebrations. We’ll start things off with our friendly against Everton and then this special commemorative fixture as well as a number of other events throughout the season.’
