Manager James Beattie has hailed yet another important point following the game against Mansfield Town.
The Good Friday game looked to be heading towards a score less stalemate with both sides wasting chances to take the lead, but they managed to get their noses in front with 15 minutes remaining, and then Naismith found the leveller from the penalty spot on the stroke of full time, to earn us another point having come from behind.
Speaking to the press following the game, that now sees us stay four points above the relegation zone, Beattie admitted that he was again pleased with the character of the squad to keep going until the final whistle in order to secure another valuable point for us, and with another game off the fixture list now, it does move us one step closer to our aim which is League Two survival for 2014-15.
‘We have got to keep working hard as we are not mathematically safe yet. We are all battling to keep this side in League Two and I am 100% confident we will do it. The lads have been tremendous and they have a real never say die attitude.’
Beattie goes on to credit the number of points we have picked up this season, despite sitting bottom of the table back in October, because we do now have a habit of nicking late goals at the end of games to take something from them, and it really does show what he’s said for a while, which is this side now do have confidence in their own abilities and they also don’t quite know when they are beaten
Better still for Beattie, he comments ‘they make me smile.’
To begin with we didn’t have a lot to smile about at all, so the fact he has been for the last few months shows just how far we have come.
Three left, and four points ahead. Southend, Oxford and Wimbledon.
Going to take am major change in our form, and those on 47 points to create a major change in their’s for us not to be safe now, but the gaffer is right, we can only relax once it’s mathematically impossible to go down.
