Manager James Beattie has said he was delighted with the point that Accrington Stanley gained against Dagenham and Redbridge in midweek.
The game was relatively even really, although we did have greater chances on the day to take all three points, but we have now only lost one of the last six, and have picked up some very valuable points in that run and this point of course helps keep us six points clear of the drop zone which is the only important thing really.
Speaking to the press following the match the gaffer explained.
‘I’m not going to complain about securing a point at a place like this. We had to dig in at times but overall I think a draw was probably the fair result.’
Beattie goes on to say that although we had good opportunities in the first 45 minutes to have taken the lead, defensively we had to step up to the plate in the second period and he was pleased with not only the chances we created – although disappointed we didn’t take them – but very pleased to see the team stand up and be counted for their defensive efforts when Dagenham came back into it.
‘It’s a tough trip coming down here for a midweek game but we travel home with smiles on our faces and we’ll look forward to the weekend now.’
One real thing of delight for the gaffer is the spirit within the camp which he hails again, because it’s not only a good group on the training pitch, it’s a good group when the chips are down on the pitch and they keep fighting for each other and he believes they deserve massive credit for that, especially when you consider how we began the campaign.
