Manager James Beattie has said he was left devastated as Accrington threw away a two goal lead in the game against Scunthorpe last night.

Stanley were two goals to the good inside the first 40 minutes thanks to strikes from Molyneux and Murphy, but it all fell apart sadly in the second half as Scunthorpe put us under lots of pressure and by the 60 minute mark had drawn level.

The real sucker punch was then we stemmed their flow and really dug in for the point, but they hit us in the dying minutes of the game to take the win.

Speaking to the press following the game, Beattie admitted he was almost speechless with the injury time winner for them, but he had to credit Scunthorpe manager Russ Wilcox for the changes he made, and admit unfortunately we just didn’t adapt to those changes quick enough.

‘We looked on course for a win at half time, the right things were said in the dressing room and we were two goals in front against a good Scunthorpe side. Russ made a few changes, we didn’t adapt to them, and we are severely disappointed.’

Beattie says that he can take a lot of positives from our performance in the first 45 minutes, but sadly there aren’t that many he can take from the second period.

‘We are all devastated at the moment.’

Since we got ourselves back on track earlier in the season, there haven’t been too many games that have gone against us like that, so at least for now it makes more sense to pass it off as one of those things that happen in happen and use it as a learning curve for the players and see how they respond, as opposed to getting overly carried away.

Get ourselves back on an unbeaten run, and then keep picking up those points to keep us ahead of those below.
