Tomorrow evening manager James Beattie takes his Accrington boys to his old rivals, and he’s expecting a little bit of stick from the home crowd.

Beattie spent six and a half years on the South Coast with Southampton and wasn’t exactly averse to putting the ball in the back of the net himself against tomorrow’s opponents and he feels he could well be on the receiving end of a bit of banter at Fratton Park.

Speaking to the Official Site Beattie joked.

‘I don’t think they’ll give me stick at all!’

More sensibly he adds.

‘I don’t mind it. I had it as a player and I’m sure that I’ll get it as a manager too. I think it’s cos the Portsmouth fans like me so much, it’s a love hate relationship.’

As for the game itself properly, the gaffer adds that with Accrington in good form we’ll be heading to Fratton Park looking to better the first result against them which ended as a draw on home soil, and hopefully pick up another three points to build on our four match unbeaten run on our travels in recent times.

‘We’ve just got to carry on doing what we’ve been doing. The position we find ourselves in just a few weeks after not having a win in eleven games is tremendous. The lads deserve huge credit for that. I know they don’t get that credit but I tell them every time I speak to them that the position they find themselves in now is remarkable.’

Beattie goes on to say that at the end of the day it’s their effort that has caused this and their hard work, so they really can believe in themselves because they are proving what he has said about them since he took the job.

Following our victory over Torquay, Accrington have remained based in the south to aide recovery, and preparation and remove the travelling aspect with the games coming so quickly, and whilst the players were allowed to enjoy the win at Plainmoor, they didn’t celebrate for too long as preparations for Portsmouth began almost straight away because of how important another three points would be for us.
