Manager James Beattie has now achieved his UEFA B licence and helped Accrington Stanley avoid a £15,000 fine in the process.

Following the earlier troubles and the £20,000 fine (£15,000 suspended) the Football League levied on Accrington because our manager didn’t hold their coveted qualifications, our gaffer completed the course last Wednesday and got his hands on the certificate.

The suspended £15,000 part of the fine will now be wiped as Beattie had until May 1 to gain the qualification and he’s done it ahead of time.

‘It’s a course that usually takes nine to twelve months and I’ve done it in 12 weeks, and I’ve done it while still trying to keep the football club in the league.’

Beattie goes on to admit that it is a weight off for him now simply because of the workload, because he had no concerns he wouldn’t pass, and obviously it’s a huge financial weight off the clubs shoulders as well as we head into next season.

Now Beattie will begin working towards his A licence.
