Manager James Beattie has said he felt nothing but pride following our performance and victory over Torquay United yesterday.

Kal Naismith grabbed his ninth goal of the campaign to secure all three points for Stanley on the day, and the victory has moved Accrington eight points clear of the drop zone, which is some achievement indeed given how we started this season.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer beamed.

‘I’m delighted for the boys, they put a tremendous shift in and I’m really proud of them. The lads have got another clean sheet which they’re all happy about and Kal’s come on at the end with fresh legs having had a week or so off and he’s shown a touch of class to break the deadlock.’

The victory was also Accrington’s sixth away win of the campaign and the gaffer has also been pleased with how our away form has come to the fore lately as for him it shows the players are preparing properly, and carrying out their instructions perfectly and he adds that even had this game finished nil nil he would still have had oodles of praise for them because of how they went about the match.

The aim obviously this season has been to pull ourselves away from the bottom of the table, and eight points is a good buffer to have between now and the end of the season especially if we can grow it, as it does allow for a few hiccups and we still keep our noses in front, but maybe now with the form we are in it’s time to stop looking behind us, and look a bit more in front.

Not only is it tight at the bottom, but it’s very tight in midtable and sitting on 37 points as we are, the play offs might be a pipe dream really, but Southend have the last spot and they are only on 49 points.

Newport in eighth place are only five points ahead of us as well and there’s no reason why we can’t look for a finish that high with so few points being the difference.
