Leam Richardson has said that following yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Bristol Rovers, which ensured Accrington’s League status, he feels this is the biggest achievement of his career.
Not bad for your first year in management is it.
Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Leam said.
‘I stand by what I said before, that this is the biggest achievement of my career. On reflection I’ll probably realise just how big the task was. On a basic level, and I’m sure Martin Allen won’t mind me saying this, our achievement is as big as Gillingham’s in winning the title. Gillingham are set up to win the league, but we aren’t set up to stay in it but we’ve done it, continuously and improved along the way.’
Richardson says that as long as Accrington and the players continue to improve year on year then he believes we’ll have some good times ahead of us.
Accrington are now four points clear of safety and whatever happens on the final day we cannot get dragged back into it, so hopefully the team will be able to go out without any pressure and really enjoy themselves to set us up nicely for more improvement next campaign.
‘I hope next Saturday is a party for the supporters because they deserve it. They got us over the line in the last few weeks.’
