Striker George Bowerman has today signed a new 12 month extension to his contract at Accrington Stanley.
The 22 year old joined us last October following his release by Walsall and scored very important goals for us against Scunthorpe and Cheltenham.
Having now extended his stay with us until next summer, manager James Beattie told the Official Site.
‘George is a goal scorer. I think he missed out last year with not having a pre season and his form was a bit indifferent but I know there’s a very good player in there.’
Beattie goes on to say that Bowerman would be the first to admit that he was doing an awful lot of travelling last season as well which certainly interrupted his flow and got in the way of him being settled, ut that’s being looked at and dealt with this summer, so the youngster should be far more grounded and with a pre season under his belt, it should help bring the best out of him.
‘If we can get George scoring goals on a regular basis that will be great. I don’t think there’s a better finisher at the club and I’m delighted to have his services for the next 12 months.’
Wonder if Beattie includes himself in that statement?
Having penned the deal, Bowerman added.
‘I just appreciate the gaffer giving me the chance in the first place. I came in and I’d done no pre season because I’d been out of the game but getting signed up has given me something to look forward to and it gives me a head start now. I’ll be on level terms with everyone else. Hopefully I can repay the faith that the gaffer and Stevo have shown in me.’
