REPORTS this morning suggest that Huddersfield Town manager Stan Ternent looks set to sign Ipswich Town’s former Accrington Stanley midfielder, Gary Roberts.
Roberts, 24, had been interesting Stanley manager John Coleman who remains a keen admirer of the Fraser Eagle favourite, who left to join Town in 2006 but saw his approaches dismissed by the player himself.
He had been close to a return to East Lancashire last season, but after seeing Accrington get beat 8-2 by Peterborough United, he snubbed the opportunity and opted to stay at Portman Road, before he went out on loan to League One side Crewe Alexandra.
But Coleman still had the player on his summer hitlist, until Town gaffer Jim Magilton ruled out the player leaving on a free transfer. A loan move could still be completed though, if Roberts who still has another two years on his contract yet, is willing to drop to League Two.
This morning though national tabloids are linking former Burnley gaffer Ternent to a double swoop for both Roberts and Alan Lee in a deal worth £700,000.
Time will tell.
