Manager John Coleman was not a happy man at full time as Accrington went down two one to Stevenage Borough.
Stevenage opened the scoring inside a minute and Stanley worked hard to get back on level terms, but shortly after the second half restart they took the lead again and speaking to the Official Site the manager had to admit we just weren’t good enough on the day but his main concern was how little we created after falling behind for the second time.
‘We weren’t good enough on the day. I have to take most of the responsibility. I thought that we were better than what we are. I have possibly got carried away with the first three wins but I think we got kidded that we were more of a threat than what we are but if you were ever going to beat Stevenage, it was today.’
Coleman goes on to say that they are a Stevenage side who are a ‘shadow’ of their former selves and unfortunately for us we ‘let them win’ with the ‘same old tactics’ and ultimately we only have ourselves to blame for that, because we simply must be and have to be better all over the park.
‘The first goal is a car crash.’
The gaffer goes on to say that it was ludicrous how we conceded the corner from a kick off and he’s confident you wouldn’t see that repeated on a park with under 9s and then the defending of the corner he doesn’t believe you’d see from a bunch of under 6s.
And disappointingly for him, once we did get back into the game we just ‘went into our shell again’ and that was it from us when we should’ve been reenergised to go on and get the win.
