ACCRINGTON Stanley are this evening mulling over a move for ex-Stanley midfielder Gary Roberts who is thought to be available on a free transfer from Ipswich Town.

Coleman is a big fan of Roberts, who left the club following a successful trial spell with Championship Play-Off chasers Ipswich. But Town gaffer Jim Magilton has since transfer listed the former Stanley star claiming that he needs ‘first team football’.

Vital Accrington Stanley understands that Coleman has already made an initial approach for the player, after speaking to the player and his agent.

Roberts almost came back to Stanley onloan last season, but after seeing Stanley beat 8-2 by Peterborough Town, he snubbed the move in January.

Chairman Eric Whalley told the Lancashire Telegraph: ‘We have been speaking to Gary – the manager talks to him a lot anyway,’

‘I think he is available on a free and he is someone we have spoken to, so we will have to see what happens.’
