Coleman – We Should’ve Won

Manager John Coleman has said that although he was happy with a point from the game against Newport County, he knows it should have been all three really.

Sean Maguire put Accrington ahead, and when Shay McCartan hit the post, Marcus Carver did put the ball in but was ruled off side, and unfortunately Newport snatched a point with a leveller inside of the final 20 minutes, and speaking to the Official Site at full time Coleman did admit some disappointment at not taking the maximum return.

‘We are disappointed as we got ourselves into the lead and got them on the ropes and missed two glorious chances. On another day Shay’s shot goes in but it bounced out and it’s Sod’s Law that Marcus was offside. You need that little bit of luck and it deserted us and that’s the difference as that was their only shot in the second half.’

Coleman goes on to say that in many ways though and on the balance of the whole game, he can’t really quibble with a point because he knows that was a fair enough result but that doesn’t shake the disappointment of our showing in the second period because he knows we should have extended our lead or at least seen the game out at one nil.
