accrington.vitalfootball.co.uk brings you news and results from the two other major teams in East Lancashire, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers.
We’ll start with Burnley’s trip to St. Mary’s as the Clarets faced a tough Southampton match. Steve Cotterill handed debuts to midweek loan signings Eric Djemba-Djemba and Mike Pollitt who signed from Aston Villa and Wigan respectively.
Burnley managed to hold out Southampton with a first clean sheet in four as debutant Pollitt played excellent making a few saves.
The Clarets best chance came from a Eric Djemba-Djemba volley but the chance went inches over the bar.
Blackburn Rovers entertained Arsenal at Ewood Park, maybe I fraised that wrong, it should read Arsenal entertain Blackburn.
After Arsenal midfielder Gilberto saw red on 12 minutes for lashing out at a referee wind up merchant aka Robbie Savage after a blatant trip and kick.
It backfired on Blackburn though as a Kolo Toure header and a moment of brilliance from Captain Thierry Henry condemned Rovers to their first defeat since the 6-2 defeat at the hands to, well, Arsenal.
So, not a good day for East Lancashire teams:
Southampton 0-0 Burnley
Blackburn R 0-2 Arsenal
Accrington 1-2 Notts County
