Ex-Accrington Stanley defender Michael Welch has today signed for Northwich Victoria on a free-transfer following his release from the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

Welch, 25, was released by John Coleman after the 2006/07 campaign came to an end, but today Vics gaffer Neil Redfearn made him the fourth signing of the summer.

‘It’s quite a coup for us,’ Redfearn told The Guardian.

‘He’s brings us the flexibility of being able to operate in midfield or at the heart of the defence.’

It is a coinsidence really, as Accrington Stanley snapped up their first choice defender Mark Roberts on a free-transfer after The Vics placed him on the list of players not being offered new contracts by mistake.

Good luck Welchy.
