The first meeting between Gillingham and Accrington at Priestfield in almost 50-years saw the home side triumphant 1-0.

Kenny Arthur, looking for his third successive clean sheet in the Accrington goal, was in fine form as he kept the home side out for most of the match. Simeon Jackson had Gillingham’s best chance of the first half as he got in behind the defence, but Arthur turned his effort away.

John Miles had Accrington’s best chance, but Gills ‘keeper Simon Royce easily saved his second half effort.

With time running out, and Arthur looking like he would manage this third successive clean sheet, which would’ve seen manager John Coleman where a kilt in the next fixture, Dennis Oli (75) proved the match winner as he turned home a cross.
