Due to Gillingham’s rivals not being in action they were able to further extend their lead at the top of the League Two table with a Saturday win over Accrington on Saturday.
Having already been denied by a goal line clearance, Deon Burton seeing his effort cleared, Tom Aldred them made a save but it was third time lucky as Matt Fish (24) fired home a spectacular goal shortly past the halfway point of the first half.
Gillingham had another good couple of chances to extend their lead in the second half but Accrington weren’t without their chances too and almost drew level at least twice but that first half goal, which was worthy of winning any game, was enough to secure Gillingham a 1-0 win and extend their lead to eight points at the head of the table.
