Striker James Gray has talked to the press and spoken of his wish to remain with the club for next season.
The 21 year old is out of contract this summer, and having scored seven goals all season, he’s hoping he’s done enough to impress manager James Beattie and be offered fresh terms for the summer.
‘I would love to stay here, but we will have to see what the gaffer says. As long as I keep playing well hopefully I can earn a new contract. I love the club and the fans and everyone is close knit. I am thankful for what Accrington have done for me so far.’
Finishing the season this term, Gray hit three goals in the final two games so certainly finished in a good vain of form.
As James Beattie begins planning for the new season now, he credited the club for being ‘professional’ in an interview carried by the Lancashire Telegraph, as he admitted we have had one eye on next season and the playing staff for about the last six weeks.
‘We started earmarking players, deciding which players we wanted to keep, which players to extend and which players we were going to let go and that’s football.’
Speaking specifically about on loan Kayode Odejayi and his goal in our last match, obviously the gaffer knows he is out of contract with his parent club Rotherham so you get the indication the praise could be the beginning salvo of a charm offensive.
‘Kayode has capitalised on a mistake at the back and finished tremendously well and that is what we have been trying to get him to do for a number of weeks because he has that in his locker. He’s unbelievably fast and no one is going to catch up and he finished his goal off well.’
