Striker James Gray has said that the team spirit within the club will more than stand us in good stead over the festive period, especially following the boost that everyone received from the Mansfield performance and victory.

Two goals in stoppage time in our last match was enough to give us all three points and we can from behind in the most dramatic of fashions.

Speaking to the Official Site Gray said that the reaction of club staff and fellow players on the bench when the equaliser and then winner went in shows just how tight a bunch everybody at Accrington are, and it speaks volumes for him in terms of what we can achieve with everybody on the same page.

‘The hardest part of being in sport is when you’re sat watching but the bench were all so happy that we won and the fact that everyone got up to celebrate shows a lot about our spirit. The gaffer is always motivating us and he said that he still felt we could win the game even when we were 2-1 down. I’m so happy for all the backroom staff as they are always giving us the belief that we are going to win and it’s paid off for them.’

Gray goes on to joke that he actually had cramp before he scored our third of the day and what become the winner but it was the best feeling he’s ever had and the cramp disappeared instantly such was his delight at taking the chance.

Gray says he wasn’t the only one who made a beeline for the league table following the win because quite a few players were sure that it would’ve lifted us out of the bottom three, so the delight was palpable when they all realised the win had lifted us to 17th place and he feels we now have some great momentum moving forward over the coming fixtures, and now being out of the bottom three not only is that a huge boost for the players, but it’s proof of all the hardwork that they have been doing under the new gaffer so all they know that’s what they have to keep doing now and who knows where we may still end up this season.

It’s also something fantastic to build on now.
