Midfielder Will Hatfield has said now is the time for the Accrington squad to step things up as we build towards our opening home pre season friendly of the summer.
Tomorrow sees the first of two big summer friendlies on home soil, and Accrington come into them having trained hard and with confidence following our wins over New Mills and Nelson, but it doesn’t take a genius to point out Gary Bowyer’s Blackburn Rovers will be a very different test, as will Sean Dyche’s Burnley.
Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, Hatfield explained.
‘The first two have been good for us but we all know that this is a big step up now. I think we’ve done well so far but we’ve got tough opposition on Wednesday and Saturday now. It’s only going to benefit us for the game against Southend (opening day) and we’re really looking forward to them.’
Hatfield says he’s expecting a good crowd for the first home game of the summer, and the players are determined to give that crowd something to cheer about – of course following his brace in our last match, he wouldn’t mind another one in the upcoming games either, nor keeping his record of scoring in every match so far this pre season because he admits, whilst everyone knows it’s about game time and fitness, wins and goals do raise confidence even at this stage.
