Leam Richardson has said that Francis Jeffers is desperate to pull on the shirt again after being out injured, and he thinks he’ll get his wish before the end of the season.

The striker has been out for three weeks with a hamstring strain sustained in the game against Gillingham, and the manager says the 32 year old is desperate to get back on the pitch.

Speaking to the Official Site Richardson said.

‘If it was up to Franny he would have trained the day after pulling his hamstring. He’s fallen out with the physio numerous times, but the physio’s only got his best interests at heart. It’s tough when you’re injured, he desperately wants to be out there.’

Richardson says that to get Jeffers back before the end of the season would be a big boost for the club, even though his still playing his part despite the injury.

‘He’s a very good player and professional and he’s desperate to be out there helping the cause. He asked if he could sit on the bench and support the lads from closer rather than in the stand.’

Jeffers had asked if he could start or at least be on the subs bench for the Morecambe game, and Leam thinks that attitude will serve the club and the younger players brilliantly in the future.

Adding that he’s trained a few times this week, but match sharpness and match fitness is something that will have to be assessed, but he’s pushing to be back in contention before the curtain comes down on this campaign. He’s hopeful he may be able to figure this weekend, but he’s more confident that Oxford is a real possibility.
