Defender Michael Liddle has said he was a relieved man when he returned to the first team for the draw last weekend against Notts County in the first round of the FA Cup.

Having spent a lengthy spell out injured, Liddle was obviously delighted to have got back on the pitch and come through the match unscathed and speaking to the Official Site the fullback explained.

‘It was definitely worth it, it was such a good feeling to be out there and be back playing with the boys. It was even more speial that it was in such a good game. The FA Cup’s special, every player knows that and wants to try and play in those games. It was nice to get my chance and play and I was just trying to enjoy myself really.’

Liddle goes on to say that clearly we didn’t play as well as we know we are capable of performing, but he felt defensively we were very solid and more than worthy of an opportunity to have a second bite of the cherry in the replay, and hopefully in that game we can handle the ball better and create ourselves the opportunities we’d want.

‘We could have had more chances of our own but overall I think our quality in the final third was a bit below par and we know we’re capable of more. We got stuck in which is what you have to do.’

Liddle ends his interview by saying there’s a quiet confidence in the dressing room and that we do fancy our chances of taking victory and putting ourselves rightfully through to the second round now, but of course to do that, we will have to play a lot better than we did.
