ACCRINGTON STANLEY can just about say that they will be a Coca-Cola League Two side come next season. In reality Macclesfield Town also looked safe and clear, but an added three points to their tally made survival more likely.

John Coleman’s battling men were finally undone with goals from teenage strike sensation Shaun Brisley, who will no doubt be attracting scouts sooner rather than later. The 17-year-old secured his brace after just 38minutes, cancelling out Ian Craney’s leveller, having earlier put the Silkmen a goal up.

He opened the scoring after just a quater of an hour at the Moss Rose Stadium, meeting a cross from Danny Thomas, with one of the sweetest left foot strikes you will see, looping the ball past Kenny Arthur in the Accrington goal, and meaning Stanley’s conceded goal total rose to 76.

Stanley kept their heads up though and battled through the game, and got the break the truely deserved after the half an hour mark. Jamie Tolley was dispossessed by a fantastic Ian Craney, playing a well times one-two move around the Macclesfield defence, before former Swansea man Craney expertly put the ball in to the bottom corner, leaving Johnny Brain with no chance.

So with Stanley level, the stage was set for Brisley to rescue all three points for his home town team, and just five minutes after Stanely drew level, he beat Arthur for a second time. The youngster nodded home, after Jamie Tolley’s corner kick somehow beat four Stanley players standing on the front post, leaving Brisley unmarked.

In to the second half and Stanley were reduced to ten men, when Aswad Thomas reacted angrily to being pushed, when going to collect the ball for a throw in. So when the referee indicated a Macclesfield throw in, Thomas stupidly threw the ball in Brisley’s face, right in front of the referee and off he went.
