22 year old Piero Mingoia has said that he was surprised when the club offered him a new contract, because he wasn’t expecting anything to happen until the summer.

Speaking to the Official Site he explained that it did come as a shock but that he was obviously delighted to put pen to paper on a new deal, because he wasn’t expecting anything to happen until nearer the end of his contract in the summer as that is usually when these things happens at this level.

‘It came as a surprise. The gaffer pulled me in at the beginning of last week and said that they wanted to offer me a new contract, so naturally I was over the moon. We managed to sort it out quite quickly, I signed it and it’s all been sorted. It’s great news.’

Mingoia has obviously now signed on at the club until the end of the 2014-15 season, and he says he’s loving life at the club so he’s really excited about Accrington’s chance at kicking on in the league now.

Obviously we have a good test coming up this weekend against Bury who have improved their own form of late under new manager David Flitcroft, so it could be a tasty derby match and that’s what Mingoia is now focused on because he knows what three points will mean to the club and what it could do for us in terms of the league table.
