CHARLTON ATHLETIC defender Paulo Monterio has this morning returned to The Valley after seeing his move to the Fraser Eagle Stadium turned down last week due to International clearance problems.

Due to Monteiro’s Portugese citizenship, internation clearance is needed in order for the defender to play in England, and with Charlton themselves still waiting on clearance for the player,a loan move to Accrington obviously can’t be on the cards.

The 23-year-old only joined the Addicks from Romanian club Farul at the beginning of February, and may let be blocked from signing for the London based club.

Monteiro has represented Portugal at Under 16, Under 19, Under 20 and Under 21 level but is yet to make his full senior squad bow.

A loan deal could still be completed, but only after Charlton recieve clearance from the Romanian Football Association.
