LEAGUE Two rivals Morecambe are interested in signing Accrington Stanley midfielder Ian Craney this summer, and has been made one of the clubs top transfer targets.

Morecambe gaffer Sammy McIlroy told the Morecambe Visitor: ‘I need another two or three players. A lot of players left last year and I have brought a few in, but we have just really filled in for people from last year.

‘Ian Craney is a player I have admired and we have enquired about him, but they have turned back every approach we have made.

‘The directors are working very hard for me. It is about getting the right agreement with both parties. We will be working right up to kick-off.’

Craney is currently Accrington’s record signing after he rejoined the club in January 2008, after originally leaving a year earlier to join League One side Swansea City.

The deal cost £85,000 and saw the firm fans favourite sign a three-and-a-half year deal at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

Two bids have already been rejected for the midfielder.
