Attacker Kal Naismith has said that he feels Accrington’s pre season is going well so far as we continue to prepare for the coming 2014-15 season.

He’d certainly feel that way following on from his brace in the recent friendly against New Mills!

Having scored twice on Tuesday evening in our five two victory, Naismith was obviously happy with his own and the performance of the team, but he was quick to point out like manager James Beattie was, that at the moment it’s all still about fitness and clicking and finding some form, so the results themselves are just a bonus.

Speaking to the Official Site he explained.

‘Regardless of the goals it was good to play. We haven’t played for over two months so just playing eleven v eleven against another team is good. It’s good to be back and we always look forward to playing. You’d rather get your fitness in from playing rather than just running but we all know the aim – you have to come back and get fit.’

Naismith says that after a good season given how we turned it around and ended the campaign, the holiday period was good, and they have all had plenty of time to relax, refresh, forget football and enjoy other things, but now we are back it’s about hard work and preparation so hopefully we don’t repeat our start from 2013-14, and instead can kick on properly and try and push ourselves up the table by a good few places if we can.

For the first game though, it’s about blowing away the cobwebs and getting back into moving with the ball naturally, and he admits he did some things in the game he wasn’t too happy with, and he thinks the first few friendlies can be frustrating for players because things don’t come as naturally as they remember, and they know they can do things better so it is annoying, but it’s just something that comes with greater fitness and your touch comes when it becomes natural again.

‘Of course you’d like to have a brilliant game and your touch be there but some of the boys might be a bit rusty and it’s just about getting that first game of pre season, you have to put it out of your head and concentrate on the fitness.’
