PAUL Mullin is unlikely to be returning to the Crown Ground this season after Morecambe denied Accrington Stanley a loan move for the 36-year-old goalscoring legend.

Gaffer John Coleman was hopeful of landing Stanley’s all time leading appearance maker and goal scorer on a loan deal to add to The Reds’ attacking options, but his parent club have said there is ‘no chance’ on a deal.

Mullin was forced to leave the club at the beginning of last season as Stanley had to raise vital funds to keep the club alive, and that meant the leading wage earners had to go.

But Stanley won’t give up on the deal and it is thought that there will be further contact at the beginning of next week.

“We will keep pursuing that avenue but he`s one of five or six we have enquired about,” said Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph.
