Striker Kayodi Odejayi has said that Accrington Stanley’s avoiding of the drop this season has been a ‘significant achievement.’

Speaking to the official site following our safety being guaranteed after the win against Oxford United – our first in quite a few attempts, Odejayi said the dressing room was utterly bouyant at full time because they all knew it was a fantastic step to have made for the club.

‘It’s brilliant as you can imagine. The boys are delighted from the staff right through the squad. It’s a really good achievement for a club like Accrington when you think of the resources and the fanbase – as great as the fans are – and the size of some of the clubs we find ourselves up against.’

Odejayi obviously references that start to the season we had, and when you consider we have achieved safety ahead of the final game of the season, that makes the achievement even greater for him because we were so far off the pace for so long and did have a mountain to climb really.

As for manager James Beattie, Odejayi admits that despite making the transition to the hotseat he’s remained ‘one of the lads’ and is really a ‘top man’ and he expects him now to go on and have a really good career as a manager and hopefully it means the club can keep looking up for a few years yet as well.
