Accrington have secured the return of goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli on loan from Fulham, and we have also taken a Liverpool midfielder on loan.

Bettinelli has now rejoined the club initially until January 30th, and the 21 year old hasn’t long left us having been recalled by his parent club on Christmas Day. On his return to Fulham he has been on the bench for their recent Premiership games, but given they have cover again now, they have allowed him back out to gain further experience with us.

During his spell with us in the first half of the season he made 19 appearances.

Speaking to the Official Site following his return to the club, Bettinelli explained.

‘When I got called back I saw the gaffer and said that as soon as the other lads got fit I’d like to get back out. I enjoyed playing the games and being at the club and we’ve got a great team chemistry at the moment and have worked extremely hard to get out of the bottom two.’

Bettinelli goes on to say that over Christmas it was strange not being at Accrington anymore because he’d got so close to the lads and settled in so well, so he was looking out for the results especially as he knew he might return, so he was wishing the boys the best.

As for the Liverpool midfielder, 20 year old Craig Roddan is very highly rated at the club and by their Academy and has recently completed a loan spell at League One Carlisle United.

He will remain initially with us for a month.

Speaking after the deal was done, gaffer James Beattie explained that he was delighted to have finally captured a player he identified at the beginning of the season.

‘Craig’s a very good young player. He’s very competitive, technically sound and good on the ball. I tried to get him before and Craig actually training with us once but the deal fell through. We’ve managed to make it happen now and we’re delighted.’

Beattie goes on to say that he’s quite a versatile player who can play in a few different positions, so he gives us additional options.
