A GOAL from Max Rodriguez ensured that Accrington Stanley’s Reserves got their first three points of the season, beating David Unsworth’s Preston North End on Wednesday evening.

Preston must have thought that the game would be a doddle as they confidently fielded a number of first teamers, including Accrington born, former Burnley midfielder Richard Chaplow, who somehow is on the transfer list at the struggling Deepdale club.

Along with Chaplow was new signing Darel Russel, who joined the club in the summer after winning the League One title with Norwich City, striker Jon Parkin who was on the comeback trail from injury, midfielder Paul Parry and defender Neal Trotman.

So when Stanley rolled up with only two players with decent first team experience, in Leam Richardson and Chris Turner, it was looking like an easy night for North End but it wasn’t to be.

The Lilywhites may have dominated the possession at times, but it was The Reds who came away with the three points after captain Peter Murphy flicked on a pin point corner from Turner to find Rodriguez unmarked to volley home from six yards out.

PNE Reserves: Arestidou, Collins, Wright, McLaughlin, Trotman (Devine, 46), Dougan, Chaplow, Russell (Middleton, 69), Parkin (McLellan, 69), Parry, Douglas. Not used: Comrie, R James, Miller, Clucas.

Accrington Stanley Reserves: O’Connell, Riley, Hall, Rodriguez, Smyth, Owens, Turner, Murphy, Akande, Richardson, Field. Not used: Lomax, Walker, Evans, Rimmer, Larner.
