AN Accrington Stanley side made up of youngsters and trialists fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Conference North outfit Burscough on Tuesday evening.
Ian Dunbavin captained the side and soon was in the thick of the action at Victoria Road with a fantastic penalty stop after 15 minutes, and stopping two follow up efforts.
Peter Murphy was the man to give away the penalty as he and fellow first year professional Jay Bell started in the young back four.
Tom Evans stepped up to take the spot kick hitting it low and firm to Dunbavin’s left but the former Halifax stopper palmed the ball away before two close ranges stops followed, as Stanley failed to clear away the danger.
Stanley scored through trailist Nick Gkioni who fired home following some neat work on the left on 44minutes to take the Reds into half time with the lead.
Allan Smart pulled Burscough level after half time before Chris Amadi and Mike Grogan won the game in the last 10 minutes for the non-leaguers.
