FORMER Accrington Stanley midfielder Gary Roberts is reported to have turned down a return to The Fraser Eagle Stadium, just a year after leaving for Ipswich Town.

Roberts, a firm fans favourite at Accrington had been left out of the Championship side’s squad for 7 weeks running, and Stanley are thought to have made a loan offer for the 21-year-old.

Roberts was at Peterborough last Tuesday evening watching Stanley, as the Reds crashed to a humiliating defeat, losing 8-2.

But Roberts isn’t interested in a move back to John Coleman’s side, insisting he would rather stay and fight for his place at Ipswich.

‘I’m not ready to go back to League Two and the manager knows I’m not ready for League Two.

‘I just want to play football and the gaffer told me that if I got my head down and worked hard there was a place for me at Ipswich.

Gary got his chance with Ipswich away at Blackpool on Saturday, a game which ended with an equal scoreline of 1-1.

Roberts continued: ‘If had taken going on loan to get games maybe I would but I have come back in here and feel I did all right.’
