ACCRINGTON Stanley got back to what seems like normality so far this season, as they were easily beaten by promotion hopeful’s Shrewsbury Town at The New Meadow on Saturday afternoon.

Goals eather side of Half-Time for the Shrews for Stuart Nicholson and Dave Hibbert condemned the Reds to a fourth league defeat of the season. A red card for Jay Harris shortly after Half-Time made the day one to forget for Stanley gaffer John Coleman.

It took just three minutes for Shrewsbury to open the scoring, courtesy of some shocking Stanley defending and courtesy of Nicholson. Former Burnley trainee Marc Pugh whipped the ball in to the middle to see the big forward slot the ball in to the back of the net, leaving Stanley stopper Kenny Arthur with no chance.

Impressive striker Roscoe D’Sane put in another excellent performance for the visitors and he nearly had the Lancashire men back on level terms, but some brilliant last ditch defending by the Shrewsbury back four meant that the scoreline remained uneven. Fellow summer signing, defender Mark Roberts could have also levelled things up but his header flew over Garner’s crossbar.

Hibbert nearly made it two minuted before the Half-Time break as he latched on to a short back pass from Stanley Skipper Peter Cavanagh, but the former Preston man’s shot cannoned off the post from 10 yards out.

Half-Time: Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Accrington Stanley

Three minutes after the Half-Time break and things got even worse for Accrington Stanley as influencial midfielder Jay Harris was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Marc Tierney. Can it get any worse?

Yes it can.

All hopes of a Stanley revival were slashed when Cavanagh brought down Pugh in the penalty area four minutes later, Hibbert easily netted the resulting spot kick, sending Arthur the wrong way.
