ACCRINGTON Stanley’s swoop for a unkown mystery defender, playing in Scotland’s Premierleague has hit rocks due to the player not being able to prove his fitness.

The SPL defender, had a hip operation when the curtains came down on the 2007/08 season and hasn’t been able to fit in any training since going under the knife.

He was due to travel to East Lancashire in the next few days hoping to finalise details of a move to Accrington.

Stanley Chairman Eric Whalley admitted it could be the middle of July before anything can be sorted out.

‘It’s been delayed until he’s fit enough to start training. He hasn’t trained since he had his operation so we’ve put it on hold.’ Whalley said speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph.

‘The physio at the club he’s with said he should be alright, but we’ve already had our fingers burnt before, so we want to make sure he’s fit to play.’
