A bumper crowd of just over 4,00 saw Accrington score a last gasp winner through Peter Cavanagh, who has taken the captaincy back off striker Paul Mullin.

The game saw free admission for all Stanley fans, as the club pushes to stay in the Coca-Cola League Two. The attendance today improved by just over 2,500 to see the Red’s grab an important win.

Torquay went down to ten men after Lee Mansell was shown red on 55 minutes following a late challenge on tricky winger Shaun Whalley.

Torquay keeper Simon Raynor was outstanding, making several saves before he was beaten by Peter Cavanagh. Cavanagh swinging in a free-kick in second half stoppage time. That sent Accrington’s larger crowd home happy and it leaves Stanley three points above the drop.

The result will leave Helen Chamberlain, not happy to say the least. So we have done the double over The Gulls.
