ACCRINGTON Stanley have pulled out of the running to net striker Matty McNeil from Stockport County as the wage demands of the forward where too high for the Reds to compete with.

McNeil, 32, was in talks with management duo John Coleman and Jimmy Bell about a possible move to East Lancashire but the wage requested was out of the club’s reach and when he refused to lower that, Stanley had no choice but to pull out of the deal.

The striker enjoyed his most successful period whilst with Hyde United where in 142 appearances his scored 47 times, making him a firm fans favourite.

But since leaving United in June 2006, McNeil has made 83 appearances with first Macclesfield Town and then Stockport County, scoring just ten goals since his move away from Ewen Fields.
