Accrington Stanley’s End of Season Awards have now been announced, and defender Tom Aldred was the big winner this campaign.

The centre back picked up the Player of the Year and Website Player of the Year prizes for his showings this campaign following the final game of the season, and he ends 2013-14 as an ever present as we secured our league status and pushed on well.

Speaking to the Official Site he said.

‘I feel so fortunate to have played every minute of this season. Being a defender, I’ve been lucky not to get a suspension or an injury or whatever and I’m blessed that I’ve been able to come through it.’

Aldred says that on a personal and professional level, it’s been a great season for him and the club, and he was absolutely ‘buzzing’ to have won these two awards.

Following on from our 12 match winless run at the beginning of the campaign, Stanley finished reasonably comfortably in 15th place in the league and Aldred said that he believes our draw away to Wimbledon was the turning point for us and you could feel it at the point in the dressing room.

‘We were just a different team and a different animal after that and I think the 50 or 60 minutes we played with ten men was big for us. Since then we haven’t looked back.’

The player says that ultimately the squad this term have reaped their rewards following all the hard work that has been put in on the training pitch and that has showed with our strong finish.
