ACCRINGTON STANLEY boss John Coleman has this afternoon added yet another defender, taking Stanley’s total count for defenders up to TEN, signing Paulo Monteiro on a month long loan from Championship side Charlton Athletic.

Monteiro, 23, has represented Portugal at Under 16, Under 19, Under 20 and Under 21 level but is yet to make his full senior squad bow.

The Portuguese centre-half joins fellow Addicks defender Aswad Thomas at The Fraser Eagle Stadium, but will not be lining up alongside his team mate against Brentford at the Fraser Eagle Stadium tomorrow due to his international clearance not being completed.

Monteiro only signed for Alan Pardew’s side at the beginning of January, joining from Romanian side Farul. He has perviously enjoyed spells with Portugal’s Sporting Braga and French outfit Istres.

The defender apparently requested to leave The Valley claiming that the Championship wasn’t ‘competitive enough’ so Coleman pounced and here he is.

Could this be Stanley’s answer to the new Godwin Antwi?
