ACCRINGTON Stanley have signed young Preston North End centre back Tom Smyth on a free transfer, after the 19 year-old was released by the Deepdale side.
Smyth has put pen to paper on a one year deal at the Crown Ground, but Assistant Manager Jimmy Bell has high hopes for the youngster, and believes he could be the next Craig Dawson, who was last year voted League Two player of the year and is now commanding a £1million fee.
“We tried to sign Craig before he went to Rochdale, and he`s one that got away,” said Bell speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph.
“Tom has really impressed us in training. He`s good in the air and if you looked at him you`d think he was Craig Dawson.”
