Manager James Beattie was delighted with the spirit and endeavour of the lads as they fought back from a goal behind to take a very valuable point against Plymouth Argyle yesterday.
Their gaffer John Sheridan certainly wasn’t happy at losing out on two extra points, but Beattie was positively beaming when Tom Aldred drew us back on level terms inside of the final ten minutes.
Speaking to the press following the game, Beattie said he feels we need to gain another seven points from our remaining games to be anywhere near safe from the drop this campaign, and this was a valuable point towards that aim.
‘It’s another point towards our target – although we might need more than 52 points. All we can do is keep trying to win games and see where it takes us. We are playing well, the lads are enjoying their football, but they know when to work hard and they have put a superb shift in.’
Beattie goes on to describe it as a ‘brilliant performance’ in what were very tricky conditions on the day owing to the weather, but we dug in and made sure we came out with something in the end.
‘We are now unbeaten in five at home and we have got to carry this on.’
Obviously building on the Morecambe win, another victory would’ve done more for us, but it was important that we didn’t waste what we gained in that match by losing in this one, so on that score it’s another good brick in the foundation to build from as another three points on the current standings could have us as high as 12th place, but sitting in 16th as long as we keep our noses in front of those below us that’s all we need this year, and then Beattie can have a real chance build on that next season.
