ACCRINGTON Stanley goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin was arrested in connection with the Steven Gerrard assault incident early on Friday morning at his home in Stockport.

Dunbavin, 28, was at the Lounge Inn night club in Southport with Gerrard’s party when the incident occured, but was not initially arrested until just after 8am on Friday 16th January.

Fellow Accrington teammate Robert Grant was arrested along with Gerrard and four other men shortly after the incident but has been released on bail pending further inquiries, whereas Dunbavin a close friend of Gerrard’s was not arrested.

Gerrard, the Liverpool captain, was out with friends, celebrating Liverpool`s 5-1 defeat of Newcastle. But Stanley boss John Coleman said neither of his players would face any disciplinary action after the incident.

Dunbavin and Grant are set to appear at Southport magistrates` court next Friday (23rd January) alongside John Doran, 29, and Ian Gerard Smith, 19, who face the same charges.
