ACCRINGTON Stanley’s first and youth team stars will soon be featuring on Sky Sports’ highly successful Saturday morning show Soccer AM.

The teams were split into seperate groups as every member of Accrington’s first team took part in the crossbar challenge at the Fraser Eagle Stadium, before the youth team took centre stage to film for the feature ‘Skills School’.

Although the club don’t want to say how the players got on in the tasks, it is believed that the footage will be shown in the opening month of the show which restarts again on Saturday August 16 on Sky Sports One at 9am.

The club’s director of youth, Phil Hackney, was present as the cameras started to role in East Lancashire on Tuesday afternoon, and was delighted that Sky had sent ‘Rocket’ one of the shows most popular crew members, who presented the skills clips.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Phil said: “It was a great laugh doing all of the filming and I can`t wait to see it on the TV.

“A lot of us watch the show so when asked if we wanted to take part we jumped at the chance.”

In the crossbar challenge, every member takes turns to place a ball on the half way line before attempting to hit the crossbar, and if it is hit then they win a ‘I hit the crossbar’ t-shirt.

The ‘Skills School’ sees two members of the youth team go face to face to determine who has the best skills, in which both players have three turns to impress their fellow team mates who turn judges. Sixteen year olds Adam Black and Scott Craggs took part in the challenge.

Phil added: “I can`t tell you how we got on but we were very pleased to take part in the filming.

“The call asking us to go on the show came out of the blue.

“It was funny really because the players had been saying for ages that they wanted to be featured on the show.”
