John Coleman and his Accrington Stanley side travel to Walsall’s Bescot Stadium on Saturday afternoon looking to continue in their recent vein of form.
After two wins on the bounce against strugglers Torquay and Hereford, Stanley will go in to the game with a bit of confidence. Walsall are currently lying third in Coca-Cola League Two following two successive relegations, and need a win to keep their automatic chances alive.
But with Stanley ‘keeper David Martin also carrying form in to the game, after his loan move from Liverpool and two consecutive clean sheets, he could prove hard to beat.
Walsall Team News:
Defender Scott Dann is out with a broken metatarsal, so Chris Westwood steps in from right-back to fill the vacancy at centre-half.
A knee injury is expected to keep Ian Roper out of action until beyond the end of the season though on-loan Stoke midfielder Kevin Harper has been passed fit to play after overcoming a minor groin injury.
Player to watch: Martin Butler
Martin Butler, 11 goals in 40 appearances, looks like Walsall’s biggest threat.
Accrington Stanley Team News:
Phil Edwards returns to the squad after serving a two match suspension and Jay Harris has one game left of his two match ban. Leam Richardson starts a two match suspension after he picked up his tenth yellow, just like the other ‘suspendees’. David Brown will sit out the first of three matches after Stanley’s appeal against last week’s red card was turned down by the Football League. Andy Tretton and Tony Grant are both ruled out through injury, however Leighton McGivern could feature in the squad after playing in the reserves in midweek. Sean Doherty returns to East Lancashire after a week long trial with Championship outfit Ipswich Town, where Gary Roberts now plays.
Player to watch: Paul Mullin
Accrington Stanley top scorer with 13, looks to be the biggest danger to the Sadlers.
Walsall 2-1 Stanley. Most club writers are completely biast towards their own club, but I certainly am not one of them. Although I think Stanley could snatch a point or even all three, looking at recent form.
