ACCRINGTON Stanley have signed former loanee striker Michael Symes on a free transfer following his release from Shrewsbury Town, while three first team members have this week put pen to paper on new deals.

Symes, 25, spent one month on loan at the Crown Ground at the end of last season and following his release from Shrewsbury has signed a one-year contract with Stanley.

The forward made seven appearances in the Red of Accrington during his loan spell, scoring just once in the win at Grimsby in April.

He started his playing career as a trainee with Premier League side Everton, where he often partnered now Manchester United star Wayne Rooney in the youth and reserve teams.

A move to Bradford City came after Symes failed to break into the side at Goodison Park, but injury ruined Michael’s chances there and a transfer to Shrewsbury materialised after a successful loan spell with the club. During his three seasons with Shrewsbury he scored 13 times in 60 appearances for the club before moving to Accrington Stanley.

He has had a number of loan spells throughout his career including; Crewe Alexandra, Stockport County, Macclesfield Town and Bournemouth, in which he only managed three goals in 26 appearances.

New contracts for Stanley stars

Andy Procter, Robert Grant and Peter Murphy have all signed new contracts with the club ahead of the new season after agreeing new deals with the club just over a week ago.

Procter has signed a two-year contract, with the other two having penned one-year contract extentions at the Crown Ground and have begun Pre-Season training with the rest of the squad.
