ACCRINGTON Stanley defender Andrew Tretton has confirmed that he will be retiring from football with immediate effect.

Tretton, 30, joined Stanley from Hereford Town in the summer of 2005, but sustained a serious knee injury whilst on his first Stanley Pre-Season.

The defender who also played for Championship outfit Derby County and Shrewsbury Town, failed to make a single appearance this season through his injury.

“It’s best for me and my family to take stock as I’ve been banging my head against a wall,” he told the Hereford Journal.

“I found after the couple of games I played that I couldn’t do anything for a few days afterwards.

“The decision I’ve made is not a snap one – it’s been coming for some time.”
