Manager James Beattie has said that the challenge for Accrington Stanley now is to maintain our recent performance levels so we can kick on further.

Accrington didn’t start the season well and there’s no denying that, but a recent unbeaten run of four games, topped off by back to back wins has certainly boosted confidence and belief in the camp, and we are now looking to push on further up the table and get ourselves out of the bottom three.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the visit of Wycombe Wanderers, the manager explained that he was looking to make that three on the bounce and he had every confidence that the players were capable of doing that.

What’s important though is the players keep their feet on the ground, and don’t get carried away or ‘giddy’ with our current stretch of form, because the only way we will pick up another three points is by playing with exactly the same focus, desire and commitment that we have approached other recent games.

Anything less and we could be on the end of a reserve gain.

‘We had an excellent week and I said to myself that if we could get seven points then it would change the way the table looks. That’s all it has done really, it’s obviously given the lads a little bit extra confidence, but we need to remain focused and remember that we’re still bottom.’

Beattie says that despite that, if we continue to show improvement and commit how we have done, he more than believes that there is enough quality in the dressing room to lift us into midtable at the very least, and if we can gain some consistency now and maintain an unbeaten run, it will of course help make that happen quicker for us.

Of course though, ‘being consistently bad isn’t good!’

Hopefully the momentum will carry us through this game and the next few, as a result against Tranmere in the FA Cup would definitely be a huge boost, although obviously our league form has to take precedence.
