We Won’t Underestimate Torquay

Manager James Beattie has said that Accrington Stanley won’t be underestimating Torquay United this weekend.

Five points separate the two teams who meet on Saturday and we still have to be mindful of the game in hand that Bury have which could drag us right back into a tight bum situation if things went against us, and with Torquay in the drop zone they will be giving their all to pull themselves ahead of Wycombe Wanderers, so anyone expecting a stress free game this weekend will be solely disappointed.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, Beattie explained that his own experience of being in the bottom spots earlier in the season give us a good insight into the kind of attitude Torquay will have when we face them and we need to match it.

‘It’s not a very nice situation to be in. But when your back’s up against the wall as ours was on Tuesday, sometimes that’s when people come to the fore. Maybe there are a few players in Torquay’s squad who have got hero status waiting for them. But it’s up to us to keep working hard and keep believing in what we’re doing because we’ve seen the benefits of trying to play the right way, and obviously having the option of going long, and making the right decisions at the right times. It works, and the lads have seen that first hand.’

Of course for Accrington it’s the first of two games south, and to save on travelling and time, we will be remaining in the area following full time as we prepare for the match against Portsmouth at Fratton Park and whilst he’s not daft enough to talk about a return of six points from the two games, he’s hoping the decisions taken so far and the increased preparation time we will have from a lack of additional travel, will serve us well.
