Manager James Beattie has said the he felt Accrington Stanley deserved at least a share of the spoils in the game against Rochdale last Saturday.

Accrington took the lead after 72 minutes thanks to a goal from Piero Mingoia, but we didn’t keep the lead for long as Matt Lund grabbed a leveller only a few minutes later before then taking all three points by adding a second in injury time.

Speaking to the press following the game Beattie really did think that we deserved at least a point from the match.

‘I thought the lads were tremendous and we were the better side for long periods of the match. The commitment, desire and discipline we showed, the shape and determination of the players – it was tremendous for me to see and we haven’t got what we deserved, we deserved something.’

Beattie goes on to say that when we scored we forced them into a change of tactics and they really came at us but he thought we stood up to them well and were really resilient but ‘they scored one of the luckiest goals I have ever seen’ and that gave them the lift they needed to go on and grab the sucker punch right at the end.

It also unfortunately brings and end to our mini two game unbeaten run and we have slipped back down the pile in the league now, but there are only still a few points in things so we simply have to dust ourselves off, take the positives that we can and go again in the next match and hopefully get a return of all three points to see us move back up the table.
